Description: General Maintenance Technician I Buildings and
Grounds Full-time, non-exempt, 40 hours/week $20-24/hour On-Campus
Reports to: Buildings and Grounds Manager VLGS Benefits and PTO

challenge our community. Position Summary: The Vermont law School
has 22 buildings on 15 acres in the town of South Royalton Vermont.
The General Maintenance Technician I is an important member of the
Buildings and Grounds crew, responsible for performing a wide range
of skilled building maintenance, repair and assisting in
construction projects. The General Maintenance Technician I will
assist with emergencies on campus and provide aid to staff, faculty
and students as requested. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Perform
a full range of grounds maintenance functions, including: -Maintain
grounds in the summer -Mow and trim grass, prune trees and shrubs,
weed beds and building borders -Plant and fertilize grass, flowers,
shrubs, etc. -Maintain grounds in winter -Remove snow and ice from
parking lots and sidewalks using shovels, snow blowers and plows
Salt and sand walkways as needed -Complete snow removal and salting
by start of student arrival, approximately 8:30am, when practical
Maintain building and grounds cleanliness, including; -Pick up
trash around buildings -Empty trash cans and recycling bins -Refill
hand sanitizer and bathroom supplies as needed -Mop spills and
clean surfaces as needed -Move furniture -Maintain campus
composting systems Perform a variety of routine building
maintenance and repair tasks, including; -Light bulb replacement
-Preventive maintenance on heating fixtures -Inspect and report
problems in HVAC systems -Routine plumbing -Relocate offices
-Set-up and teardown for events -Monitor, inspect, and operate fire
alarm and sprinkler systems -Interior and exterior painting and
staining, including surface preparation Assist with basic
construction tasks related to grounds maintenance (ditch digging,
cement work, laying tar and asphalt, fence installation, etc.)
Pickup and delivery of U.S. Mail and packages Perform tasks such as
the off-season overhaul, repair and rebuilding of tools and
equipment Requirements: Required Education, Skills and Experience:
High school diploma or GED is required Understanding of and
appreciation for inclusion, including the ability to work with
students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities,
and viewpoints Ability to work with all members of the Vermont Law
and Graduate School community and to participate with the Building
and Grounds Department as a team Ability to oversee the activities
of work-study students assigned to specific projects Some seasonal
overtime work with exposure to extreme weather conditions is
required as is specific event work on weekends such as Commencement
and Homecoming Weekend License and ability to operate heavy
machinery; driver’s license and insurability required Other
Requirements: Must be able to work legally within the United States
without sponsorship 90% of work is done standing, squatting, or
kneeling - very little desk or sitting work Ability to lift up to
60 pounds Ability to perform all essential functions of the job
with or without basic accommodations Ability to maintain a sense of
humor in highly stressful situations Dedication to the VLGS mission
Ability to communicate patiently and effectively in person and by
telephone Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines and
reorganize under pressure with skills in decision making and
problem solving Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive
data This position may require night or weekend hours for events or
